System

  • Based on Debian 13 (Trixie), version 13.5 (released May 16, 2026) + further updates
  • Kernel is 6.18.35+rex+2-amd64 or later. Includes Copy Fail (CVE-2026-31431) and Dirty Frag (CVE-2026-43284 / -43500) fixes and the VPE deadlock fix
  • Bootloader(s), kernel et al. signed with AMD production keys
  • The Developer Center offers easy access to all of the features of the AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform
  • Default VRAM and TTM settings applied out of the box. Those can easily be reconfigured using the AMD Ryzen AI Developer Center ("Developer Center")
  • The AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform is configured by default not to suspend or hibernate. Power management settings can be manually reconfigured
  • A recovery system image is present on the system in case of system issues requiring a recovery attempt
    • Accessible from BIOS → Boot Manager (and BIOS → Advanced → "launch recovery image")
    • Recovery can configure multiple Wi-Fi networks (with failure reasons shown, e.g. "Bad password")
    • Reinstallation is possible from network or local media, install models over the network

  • Snapshots & Restore:
    • The AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform Linux OS automatically creates system snapshots to bring peace of mind and enable faster iteration
    • First Factory snapshot lets the user return to the first boot state
    • The second snapshot preserves the SSH host key, first user account, and all deployed updates during the initial configuration
    • Regular snapshots are taken before software-package updates.
    • Rollback/factory-reset across a kernel-version change keeps the system bootable
    • At this time, all snapshots are captured automatically (no manual way to trigger one)
    • Easiest way to restore to a well-known state is to use the Developer Center
  • LED light bar is controllable from Launchpad → Settings → Light Bar
  • The firmware updates are delivered through the industry standard LVFS mechanism

ROCm

  • The AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform comes pre-installed with the latest stable ROCm release: 7.13
  • All required specific core system libraries, build tools, and kernel dependencies are installed

AMD Ryzen AI Developer Center

  • Integral to the AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform experience, the Developer Center is started by default and provides access to key features such as:
    • All system updates and upgrades (including BIOS/firmware updates)
    • Access to key resources (user guide, help center, and more)
    • Manage containerized applications, AI models, and services
    • System Snapshot & Restore capabilities
    • Advanced configuration options (e.g. remote access, memory configuration, LED light bar)
    • Factory reset (distinct from standard rollbacks)
    • Telemetry opt-in/opt-out
    • And much more
  • New notifications (SW package update, FW update, Launchpad self-update) appear as transient (30 s) to keep the user informed about activities
  • An "Updating System / Do not power off" splash is shown during update/snapshot, factory-reset, and rollback reboots
  • Resources tab provides quick access to the User Guide / User Manual, Developer Center, and Recovery
  • Users can find out more about the telemetry collection under Analytics → "Learn More"
  • Can simply be launched from the application menu. Started by default upon fresh installation
  • AMD Sync is available to provide easy remote access. Please refer to the Remote Development with AMD Sync playbook for more information about AMD Sync on AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform: https://developer.amd.com/playbooks/amd-sync/

Initial installation

  • The EULA "AMD SOFTWARE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA) and other Terms are integrated into the initial installation and required to proceed
  • Network connectivity is necessary during the initial installation. The installer software will not be able to proceed without a proper Internet connection
    • Network configuration is mandatory. The network widget reflects status during initial installation.
    • Mandatory package updates will be required before proceeding
  • By default, the AMD telemetry is presented and set as opt-out. Users can choose to voluntarily opt-in.
    • All information is anonymized before being submitted to AMD
    • User can change the AMD telemetry settings at any time from the Developer Center
  • The system will take an initial snapshot after the latest packages are successfully installed
  • Please note that some updates (large downloads for containers and models) will be performed upon the first user login after the initial reboot

User interface (UI)

  • Locale defaults to en_US
  • Keyboard/language default to en_US
  • UI uses a dark theme with red accent by default
  • The UI is powered by the GNOME desktop environment
  • Multiple wallpapers for AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform are available to choose from
  • GNOME Dash to Dock extension installed by default, set to vertical on the left
    • The following icons are pinned by default: Developer Center, vLLM, Lemonade, ComfyUI, Web Browser (Chromium), Terminal and VS Code (when installed)
  • Default keybindings: Ctrl+Alt+T opens a terminal; Super+E opens the file manager (Nautilus)
  • Chromium ships with Google as default search engine and AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform bookmarks (e.g. live playbook URL)

Pre-installed AI Playbooks

  • Many curated models are pre-installed on the AMD Ryzen AI Developer Platform
  • To ease testing and development, most workloads are executed inside containers
  • Unless an update is required, no post-install downloads are needed prior to executing models
  • Lemonade can fetch/use Omni models; extra models persist/list after a factory reset
  • The Developer Center provides an easy way to reset your user data in case an AI application gets corrupted while in use. Use the "Clear Data" button to reset the application
    • All user configuration for that application will be reset
    • System-level models and settings in the system-wide directories will remain

vLLM

  • vLLM is pre-installed and runs as a container
  • A launcher icon is available from the Dock and application menu
    • It will automatically launch the Chromium browser in application mode
  • The status of the container can be checked from the Developer Center
  • Please note that the first startup of vLLM takes a few seconds due to the container being loaded for the first time.
  • The helper command vllm-launch --help lists models by name
    • Models are checked by default in the system (/var/cache/models) and user (~/.local/share/vLLM/models/) seamlessly
    • The vllm-launch command can be used to select different models
  • vLLM is automatically shut down after closing the terminal

ComfyUI

  • ComfyUI is pre-installed and runs as a container
  • A launcher icon is available from the Dock and application menu
    • It will automatically launch the Chromium browser in application mode
  • The status of the container can be checked from the Developer Center
  • Please note that the first startup of ComfyUI takes a few seconds due to the container being loaded for the first time.
  • For any ComfyUI workflow, models must be downloaded and placed in the correct directory
    • The ComfyUI base directory is exposed at (~/.local/share/ComfyUI), allowing models to be placed in the usual locations.
  • ComfyUI is not automatically shut down after closing the Chromium application-mode window
    • It can be manually stopped from the Developer Center

Lemonade

  • Lemonade is pre-installed. It does not run as a container
  • A launcher icon is available from the Dock and application menu
    • It will automatically launch the Chromium browser in application mode

Tips and known issues:

⚠️ Tips and known issues

  • After changing device name to something other than the default value 'amd-halo', the applications running on the Chromium browser (UI) can no longer be launched after booting into Desktop or by clicking on their respective desktop app icons. This happens because when Chromium starts, it writes a lock file to the profile folder containing the machine's hostname. If you change the hostname, Chromium sees a mismatch with what it wrote at (~/.config/chromium/SingletonLock). Workaround: If you remove this lock file, the issue is resolved. A fix will be available in an upcoming maintenance release.
  • Port conflicts could happen as there are many services using well-known ports
